Iraq star brings Easten promise to Eastlands
Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram has been offered the opportunity for a trial at Manchester City.
Akram currently plays for the Abu Dhabi-based Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, but he has been granted the all-clear by his club to travel to England.
He was voted the third best player in Asia at the 2007 Asian Player of the Year awards, and was a key member of the Iraq squad which surprisingly won this year's Asian Cup.
He has won over 60 international caps since making his debut in 2002, and has been linked with a move to Sunderland in the past.
Green light
A statement on the player's own official website states: "After receiving an invitation to undergo a 10-day trial with Manchester City, Al Ain's administration has given the green light to Nashat Akram to go ahead and travel to England.
"Akram will be heading to England in the upcoming days.
"Akram will be the second west Asian player to trial with Manchester City as AFC Player of the Year and Saudi Arabia skipper Yasser Al Qahtani travelled to Manchester last week to trial with the team."
