Skysports.com understands Birmingham have lost out to Boca Juniors for Argentine ace Lucas Castroman. Blues had lined up a deal to bring Castroman to St Andrews after he fell out of favour at Mexican side Club America. The 27-year-old has a wealth of experience having played in Serie A with Lazio and Udinese, and Birmingham were hoping to bring him to England. Blues chief Alex McLeish is keen to bolster his squad for the second half of the season and had earmarked a move for midfield star Castroman. Birmingham were confident of landing the South American with the player due to fly over to England for talks before Boca made a last-ditch move for Castroman. After receiving the offer from Boca, Castoman opted not to travel to England and he is now in talks with Boca about a move back to his homeland.
