Keeper may be forced to leave to get first-team football

Paris Saint Germain keeper Jerome Alonzo admits that he would be interested in joining Middlesbrough. The Frenchman has struggled to gain regular football at PSG due to the form of Mickael Landreau and is becoming disillusioned with life at the Parc des Princes. He has not featured in the first team for 14 months and was once again left out for the club's 2-1 victory over fourth division club Epinal in the Coupe de France on Saturday. He has expressed his desire to play in either Spain or England if the opportunity arises, and with Mark Schwarzer's contract at Boro due to expire in the summer he may yet secure a move to the Riverside.

Close to leaving

"Last summer I was very close to leaving for Ligue 2 side Guingamp, but I made the choice to stay," he told L'Equipe. "Tomorrow though, if Middlesbrough call me and offer me a two-and-a-half year contract, then obviously I will talk to the PSG officials." Alonzo says that he always expected to end his career at PSG, but recent speculation suggesting that he is happy to not be playing has made him want to prove his critics wrong.
Annoyed
"I feel upset to have not played in any cup this season," he said. "But what annoys me the most is the fact that inside the club someone said 'Jerome doesn't play and I don't think that bothers him'. "I am not at the club just to pick up my cheque. I have not played for 14 months. If someone can say I am happy with that, it means he doesn't know anything about football. "Maybe one day I will have to knock on Paul Le Guen's door and ask to go for a trial abroad.
Keen to play
"I imagined that I would end my career here and then be given the chance to coach the young keepers, but before that I still want to play for at least two years. "It is out of the question that I will stop my career in June at the end of my current contract. "I would be prepared to join a Ligue 2 or foreign side, but if I do stay until May the coach now knows that I am keen to play."
