Grimsby front man came close to Hereford move
Martin Butler has revealed that he nearly made a transfer window switch from Grimsby to Hereford so he could be closer to his family
The former Walsall striker only signed a permanent deal with the Mariners in December after a successful two-month loan spell.
The 33-year-old has endured a frustrating start to his Grimsby career with a combination of injury and long-distance travelling putting a dampener on his happiness at the Lincolnshire club.
"It's not been a great start to my Grimsby career, it has to be said," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
"I just didn't realise how much the travelling would affect me to be honest.
"It's a 180-mile trip to play games and train and it has taken its toll."
Contract
Butler admitted that if a suitable contract had been offered by the Bulls he would have had to think long and hard about his future.
"If everything could have been sorted out at Hereford I would have considered the move," he added.
"It would have made sense for me to be nearer home and not have that drive.
"But the contract wasn't right for me at this stage in my career and that's why I turned it down."
