Scunthorpe boss readies his charges ahead of run-in

Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins has insisted that his side are capable of preserving their Championship status. Adkins' men, who gained promotion from League One last season, currently sit 23rd in the table, six points from safety. And ahead of Saturday's encounter against Ipswich, Adkins has rallied his troops, insisting his men still believe they can avoid the drop. "We are confident we can get a result from the game (against Ipswich). The players' spirit is still high, the work ethic is there, and it is a game which we need to win," he told the club's official website. "We have got to keep the belief that we can achieve `mission impossible,' which is to maintain Championship status and we really, really believe we can."

Horlock departure

Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Kevin Horlock has signed for Mansfield on loan until the end of the season. The 35-year-old joined Scunthorpe from Doncaster in the January transfer window but has failed to make an impact at Glanford Park.
