Veteran hopes to return to action to guide The Railwaymen to safety
Crewe club captain Neil Cox is putting his future plans on hold as he eyes helping the team climb away from League One relegation danger.
The veteran, who has been out injured, is a free agent in the summer and has previously spoken of his interest in coaching.
But the 36-year-old will not be drawn on his future just yet as the Railwaymen are hovering above League One's bottom four on goal difference.
The defender-cum-midfielder told
The Sentinel: "I've not really thought about it and I will wait until the end of the season. I'm not under contract next season, although I read somewhere that I was.
Not thought
"As far as I'm concerned I signed a two-year deal when I came here. I've not thought about things yet. We'll get to the end of the season and we'll see just what happens."
The former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough player has recently undergone shoulder surgery and last started a game at Brighton on 2nd February.
But he hopes he can return to action before the end of the season, with the Railwaymen having four games left, starting at Yeovil on Saturday.
The side have been plunged into the relegation fight after taking just one point from their last three games, including last Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Southend.
Experience
Cox added: "While I started training last week, I'd been running for two weeks. I hope to get back involved and play my part. We could do with a bit of experience in the side.
"We have to start winning games. One or two home truths came out after last week and I think we will be ready for the fight now.
"But it could be tight down there and 50 points might not be enough to stay up this year."
