Jefferies decides to keep midfielder

Kilmarnock have handed Rhian Dodds a short-term contract extension. Dodds' existing contract was due to expire in the summer and he has not played enough games to trigger a clause giving him an extra year. However, Killie boss Jim Jefferies has decided to keep on Dodds, handing the midfielder a deal until December at Rugby Park. "Rhian has a clause in his contract whereby he would have got another year once he had made a certain number of appearances," Jefferies told the Daily Record. "But he had a bad injury, which required an operation, and he has been unable to make the required number of games.

Fair

"But we have to be fair to Rhian. Because of his injury he's not played enough games so we have given him a short-term contract until the end of December. "He was doing well in the team before he was injured. Now he is out for the rest of the season. "By signing this short-term deal it takes the pressure off him. "This will give him the chance to get fit for next season, to get back in the team and then we will assess his situation in December. "We did a similar thing with Simon Ford last season as he was coming back from injury and he went on to clinch a longer deal."
