Defender to stay at Gresty Road until 2010

Crewe Alexandra defender George Abbey has signed a new two-year contract at Gresty Road. Abbey has made 22 appearances for the League One club since joining from local rivals Port Vale last summer. He has forced his way into Steve Hollands' starting line-up since the turn of the year as Crewe battle to avoid relegation. Capable of playing in any position across the defence, Abbey has also been used as a holding midfielder by the Railwaymen. The 29-year-old has now been rewarded for his versatility by accepting a deal to stay at the club until 2010.
