German coach Joachim Low has confirmed that Bernd Schneider will not be going to Euro 2008.
The influential Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who has 81 caps, had been hoping to make Austra & Switzerland despite undergoing a back operation last week.
However, just seven days on the 34-year-old's dreams have been dashed.
"The loss of Bernd is a bad blow, because with his experience and technical qualities he is both a manager and leader in our national team," said a disappointed Low.
"We have to accept that Bernd's recovery and return to training are not compatible with his eventual participation in Euro 2008."
