Michael Johnson will remain at Notts County after agreeing a one-year contract with the club. The veteran defender, 35, who began his career at Meadow Lane in 1991, was an influential figure in the Magpies' battle against relegation this season since arriving on loan from Derby in February. "I couldn't be more pleased. We talked about the possibility of him staying on when he initially signed for us and I was very keen to keep him here," County boss Ian McParland told the club's official website. "A lot has been made of the fact that Notts County is in his blood and he wants to see the club get back to where it once was. "I am a lot more concerned about the fact that he is a quality player with a tremendous knowledge of the game and a superb influence in the dressing room. "If we are going to move this club forward we are going to need people like Michael Johnson on board."
