Montgomery and Clarke pen contract extensions

Gary Montgomery and Jamie Clarke have agreed new one-year deals with League Two side Grimsby. Goalkeeper Montgomery joined the club from League Two rivals Rotherham in 2007 and has been handed a contract extension despite his failure to hold down a first-team spot. The 25-year-old was restricted to just six appearances during the 2007/08 campaign but impressed during his rare outings, keeping three clean sheets. Former Boston centre-half Clarke was a virtual ever-present for the Mariners last season, making 38 appearances for Alan Buckley's struggling side. He arrived at Blundell Park in the summer of 2007 having been suggested to the club by assistant boss Stuart Watkiss, who managed him at Mansfield. Both men will now remain with the Lincolnshire club until 2009 and will be hoping to inspire the side towards a promotion push next season, after the last campaign saw them languish in the bottom half of the table.
