Southend boss also targeting former top-flight striker
Southend manager Steve Tilson has made an approach for Spanish defender Luis Castro Sito and an unnamed former Premier League striker.
Ipswich brought Sito to England in the summer of 2005 and the 28-year-old left-back was released by Town after making 13 league appearances for the Championship outfit last season.
Tilson has begun talks regarding a possible move to Roots Hall, although he has also contacted a young Championship defender released last season.
"He (Sito) is a decent player and we've spoken to his agent," Tilson told the club's
official website.
"We have a few options in that area, though, so I am not sure what is going to happen."
Tilson has also confirmed he is in talks with a League One striker who has Premier League experience.
Experienced
Ex-Manchester City striker Shaun Goater finished his career with Southend during the 2005/06 season and scored 11 goals in 28 league starts to help the Shrimpers to the League One championship.
Goater also helped the likes of Freddy Eastwood and Mark Gower develop and Tilson is hoping his latest target can have a similar effect at Roots Hall.
"We've opened initial talks and at this stage the player in question does seem interested," Tilson added.
"He's an experienced striker and could do a job similar to the one Shaun Goater did here a few years ago. He was a great help both on the pitch and in the dressing room, and we're now after a similar kind of player.
"We have some promising young strikers here and working alongside someone who has played at the top level and scored so many goals can only help improve their game as well."
