Welsh defender completes Walsall move
Walsall have completed the signing of Stephen Roberts on a two-year contract from Championship side Doncaster.
The Welsh international came through the ranks with Wrexham, before moving to Rovers in the summer of 2005.
Three years at the Keepmoat Stadium saw him make over 80 appearances, including numerous commanding displays during the club's successful promotion bid last season.
His impressive form during the 2007/08 campaign caught the eye of Wales boss John Toshack and Roberts was an unused substitute for a friendly clash with Luxembourg in March.
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen is delighted to have lured the 28-year-old away from Rovers and feels that he will be a vital member of the Saddlers' squad next term.
Proven
"Stephen is a proven, quality player at League One level," he told the club's
official website.
"He played a major role in Doncaster's success last term and we are delighted to have him on board.
"He is beginning to earn international recognition and I believe he can play a major role in what we are trying to achieve here.
"After plenty of hard work and negotiations in recent weeks this is the first of a number of new signings that we will be announcing in the coming days and weeks."
