Le Mans have snapped up Norway international Thorstein Helstad from SK Brann.
The 31-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer in his homeland in recent seasons but has been keen to test himself in a different league.
He is now heading to French club Le Mans and his former employers admit he will be difficult to replace.
"Thorstein has been tremendously important for us the last few years," Brann sports director Roald Bruun-Hanssen told the club's official website.
"But he has been very clear that in case a good offer from abroad comes, he would be interested in taking the chance."
Le Mans finished ninth in Ligue 1 last season but have been busy trying to strengthen their squad this summer.
