Portugal midfielder joins Bundesliga new-boys

Newly-promoted Cologne have completed the signing of Portugal international Armando Petit. The veteran midfielder arrives in Germany on a free transfer from Portuguese outfit Benfica. The 31-year-old has spent his entire club career in his homeland, helping both of his previous clubs, Benfica and Boavista, to the league title. He has thanked the supporters at Estadio da Luz for their unwavering support over the last six years, but admits that he is looking forward to tackling a new challenge in the Bundesliga. "This will be my first experience abroad and I'm looking forward to it," he said. "It was a very good offer and I asked Benfica to let me go. But I would also like to thank them for some amazing years." Benfica have first refusal on Petit should he decide to return to Portugal, while the Eagles will also pocket 3million euros (£2.3m) if he opts to join another club.
