Youngster seals short-term contract

Notts County have offered Ben Fairclough a short-term contract following a successful trial at Meadow Lane. The former Nottingham Forest trainee scored two goals in five appearances for County after spending the entire pre-season campaign with Ian McParland's side. The midfielder's latest striker came against his former club in a 3-2 friendly defeat on Saturday, and McParland believes the youngster has the potential to make an impact at the Magpies. He told the club's official website: "Ben has done well for us over the course of pre-season, so we have come to an agreement with him over a short-term deal. "We have been pleased with him and he has mixed in well with the group we have. It is up to him to knuckle down now and see if he can earn himself a longer deal. "He has the opportunity, now it is up to him to grasp it with both hands."
