Crewe boss eager to sign defender
Steve Holland has admitted he would be interested in bringing former Wolves defender Gary Breen to Crewe.
The 34-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Molineux at the end of last season and Holland is looking to sign an experienced centre-back.
Holland has spoken to Wolves boss Mick McCarthy about the Irishman and also made an approach to his agent.
However, Holland has not heard back from Breen and is not expecting to be able to push through a deal.
"I made a tentative enquiry about Gary Breen. I spoke to Mick McCarthy about him and he had nothing but praise for him, as a professional and a leader," Holland told Crewe's
official website.
"We could do with a bit more experience in there and Breen certainly has that in abundance.
"I spoke to his agent and said if there was any interest from Gary to get back to me. That hasn't happened so I don't think anything will happen there."
Addo trial
Ghanaian defender Ransford Addo is still on trial at Crewe and Holland has been impressed by the 25-year-old, although somebody with more experience would be ideal.
"There hasn't been that much movement on a centre-half," Holland explained.
"We have asked to extend Addo's trial with us until Thursday, so we can organise a match to watch him.
"He has done well and could yet fit the bill. We have been pleased with him.
"We don't really want a young up-and-coming defender at the heart of our defence.
"We want someone who has that experience and would improve the team. If we could get someone like Gary then that would do."
