Southend United have swooped to sign Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman on a free transfer.
Freedman, who had a testimonial at Palace over the summer, has agreed a two-year contract at Roots Hall, with the option of a further 12 months.
The experienced front man had been informed that he would not be involved in Neil Warnock's plans at Selhurst Park this season.
He had been on the look-out for a new club and had been linked with a return to Leeds United, where he impressed on loan last term.
Leeds ruled out a permanent move for the Scot, but Freedman has now secured a switch to Southend before the close of the transfer window.
Freedman will not be able to make his Southend debut against Leyton Orient in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday, but could face Carlisle in League One at the weekend.
