Tony Mowbray has confirmed West Brom are poised to take Lithuanian Mindaugas Kalonas on trial.

Mowbray to run the rule over Bohemians talent

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that the club are poised to take Lithuanian attacking midfielder Mindaugas Kalonas on trial. The 24-year-old international is set to leave current employers Bohemians of the Irish league when his contract expires next month and Mowbray has revealed that West Brom are keen to take a closer look at the diminutive midfielder. "These things go on in the background at football clubs where scouts go out, identify players, reports come onto my desk and say 'yes' or 'no'," said the Baggies boss. "I've never seen him but I think he's got a good enough pedigree."

Koren precedent

Indeed, Kalonas began his career with Dinamo Moscow and has so far enjoyed spells in Portugal, Latvia and most recently Ireland. Well-travelled as the Lithuanian may be, Mowbray has suggested that if Kalonas wishes to add England to a growing list of destinations then he will have to really impress the Baggies' coaching staff during the trial. "As and when he comes over, he might survive one day, two weeks, or a week," added Mowbray. "I might think he's great and we'll sign him. "Robert Koren came on a trial basis and we signed him. "But the kid's not here yet so I don't know any more about him."
