Midfielder leaves Villarreal to return home

Palmeiras have confirmed the capture of Brazil international Edmilson from Villarreal. The former Lyon and Barcelona man signed for Villarreal last summer, but has failed to secured regular football under Manuel Pellegrini. The 32-year-old, who helped his country win the 2002 World Cup, will undergo a medical on Friday, just in time to be registered for the Copa Libertadores. The vastly-experienced midfielder is understood to have penned a two-year deal with Vanderlei Luxemburgo's side. "It is clear that I am no longer a 20-year-old kid," stated Edmilson. "However, I want to win a Brazilian championship, a Libertadores - things that I have not yet done - and I want to return to the Brazilian national team."
