Under-fire boss given vote of confidence

Hannover chairman Martin Kind has refuted suggestions that Dieter Hecking's job is under threat. Reports had suggested that the under-fire manager could be facing the sack following a disappointing run of results. The Bundesliga outfit have won just three of their last 13 fixtures and were humbled 3-1 by fellow strugglers Energie Cottbus last time out. It was believed that result would put pay to Hecking's tenure, but Kind insists the Hannover board will not resort to drastic measures in an effort to turn the club's fortunes around. "There is no manager debate, but this speculation is usual in this business," Kind told Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung. "Dieter Hecking has to deal with criticism, but what was brilliant yesterday cannot be wrong today. "Clearly the best thing that could now happen is for the team to win against Stuttgart on Saturday.

Difficult times

"We need to take the chance to put some daylight between ourselves and the relegation zone. "The team and the manager have to face these difficult times together." Veteran full-back Michael Tarnat agrees with his chairman, insisting that Hannover have displayed an alarming lack of passion in recent weeks. "Our performances have been below par," he told BILD. "We now have our backs against the wall and if we keep playing like this, then there is every reason to be concerned. We will go down if we carry on. "The defeat against Cottbus demolished everything we had put in place with the win against Schalke last week. "Motivation and passion, we lacked everything, as well as being poor from a football point of view."
