Defender sent for surgery after leg injury

Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson has confirmed that Michael Jackson will be out for the rest of the season. Jackson suffered an injury to his right leg in the defeat to Luton last month but it was initially unclear how much damage had been done. It has now been confirmed that he has a torn cartilage and will have to undergo surgery on Wednesday. Veteran defender Jackson, who joined the Shrews last summer, will play no further part in the club's fight for promotion from League Two. "It is a massive blow for us to now be missing Jacko for the rest of the season," Simpson told Shrewsbury's official website. "It is a big blow for Jacko who had done well after coming back into the side. "It is just one of those things we have to deal with and get on with. "Kelvin Langmead has come in and this now gives him the chance to continue and hopefully he will grab that chance with both hands."
