Defender shunned other offers to stay at Oakwell

Barnsley defender Bobby Hassell has revealed he is 'over the moon' to have signed a new contract at Oakwell. Hassell, who has made over 180 appearances for the Tykes since joining from Mansfield Town in 2004, has agreed to stay with the Championship strugglers until 2012. He admits other clubs had shown an interest, but the 28-year-old outlined his determination to remain part of Simon Davey's squad. "I am over the moon to have signed a new deal here at Barnsley," Hassell told the club's official website. "We have been talking for the last six weeks and to sign a three-and-a-half year deal is brilliant. "I did have a few offers on the table from other clubs and they were more attractive deals financially, but this is where I want to play my football. "Simon Davey has shown a lot of faith in me during the last three seasons and working with him and the opportunities he has given me, I believe, has made me a much better player. "I am very happy being here. I have always been happy at Barnsley Football Club and this is where I see my future."
