Sergio Asenjo has received an offer from Fiorentina, but wants to stay in Spain according to his agent.
Atletico and Barca also in for Valladolid shot-stopper
Sergio Asenjo has received an offer from Fiorentina, but wants to stay in Spanish football and is set to decide whether to move to Atletico Madrid or Barcelona, according to his agent.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper has impressed all season with Real Valladolid and will step up a level this summer, but he is yet to decide where that will be at.
Atletico have held talks with the player and he is tempted although the chance to play for Barcelona is one that he would find difficult to turn down, his representative Zoran Vekic explained.
Fiorentina's interest has flattered the young custodian, but their financial offer means that they are not a realistic option and so Asenjo will now consider the two Primera Liga clubs.
"The interest of Fiorentina is real. They have made an offer to Valladolid, but we prefer other solutions," Vekic told
El Mundo Deportivo.
"We have had two meetings with the leaders of Fiorentina, but the sports and economic conditions do not convince us.
"Asenjo prefers to continue in Spain, where we have two major options, which are Barcelona and Atletico Madrid."
Zekic then explained that Barcelona would be the first choice, but Asenjo does not want to go to Camp Nou and spend the season on the bench if Victor Valdes stays.
