Ruben De la Red has been ruled out for the season as doctors struggle to diagnose his condition.

Doctors still unsure why Real midfielder collapsed during game

Real Madrid midfielder Ruben De la Red has been ruled out of the entire 2009/10 season as doctors struggle to explain why he collapsed during a match in October. The incident occurred during a Copa del Rey clash at Real Union in October, with the 24-year-old only regaining consciousness once he had returned to the dressing room. De la Red missed the rest of the campaign as a precaution and doctors are still unsure what caused the player to fall motionless to the ground. The incident gained massive attention in Spain following the death of Sevilla's Antonio Puerta, who collapsed in similar circumstances and died three days later just over a year ago in a league game against Getafe. De la Red revealed that he still harbours hopes of one day returning to the game but at present he has to keep going for checks every two months until doctors discover the extent of the problem. "What I have doesn't have a name and as of today there is no concrete answer," he told Marca.
