Goalkeeper itching to play in Champions League

Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has spoken of his excitement as he nears a move to Atletico Madrid. The 20-year-old was linked with a switch to Fiorentina last month but his preference was to remain in Spain and Atletico are now close to finalising a transfer. Asenjo is looking forward to joining his new club, especially after Atletico finished fourth in the Primera Division to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. "It is a dream, the thing I have thought about all my life," he told El Mundo Deportivo. "I have always wanted to play in a Champions League game. "Now Atleti have given me that chance and I am going to do all I can to ensure I am there to taste what the atmosphere is like in El Calderon, because I think there will be no better atmosphere anywhere. "I hope that we can have a great season and win a trophy. Atletico have a great team, that is for sure, and we can compete with the top two." Atletico and Valladolid have yet to confirm a deal has been done for the keeper but he does not anticipate any problems. "I hope that can be all sorted out soon," Asenjo added. "I really want to sort out my future once and for all."
