Highly-rated Spanish shot-stopper joins Atletico from Valladolid

Atletico Madrid have signed highly-rated goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo from Real Valladolid for a fee of around €5million. The Spain Under 21 shot-stopper has penned a four-year contract with Atletico, with striker Diego Costa joining Valladolid on a year-long loan as part of the deal. The 20-year-old has been tipped for the top ever since making his debut for the Pucela 18 months ago and has shone for Spain's youth sides. Asenjo helped Spain U19s secure the European Championship in 2007, while he played a pivotal role in helping the U17s finish third in the tournament a year earlier. Asenjo will look to make the number one jersey his own at the Vicente Calderon after the departure of goalkeepers Leo Franco to Galatasaray and Gregory Coupet to PSG earlier this summer. The keeper will be presented at the Vicente Calderon in front of the Rojiblanco fans on Monday at 1pm.
