Portuguese ace completes switch to Bundesliga

Cologne coach Zvonimir Soldo has expressed his delight at completing the signing of Maniche. The Portugal international put the finishing touches on his move to Germany from Atletico Madrid on Monday. Having passed a medical with Cologne in the morning the 31-year-old then flew off to join up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp in Austria. Maniche becomes the club's second high-profile capture of the summer, following the arrival of Lukas Podolski, and Soldo is optimistic heading into the 2009/10 campaign. "I am delighted that he is here," Soldo told Cologne's Express newspaper. "We have been after him for weeks and he is going to take us forward. "Maniche has an excellent shot, is strong going forward and is dangerous in front of goal. I plan on playing him in front of Petit in the attacking midfield position." Maniche has joined Cologne as a free agent having being deemed surplus to requirements at Atletico. His previous clubs include Benfica, Dynamo Moscow, Inter Milan and Chelsea, while he also won the UEFA Champions League during his days at Porto.
