Rotherham United winger Andy Liddell has defended the club over the state of their pitch, after both Rochdale and Huddersfield Town issued complaints.
The Millers are currently using the facilities at Don Valley Stadium, after leaving old home Millmoor in 2008, but complaints were made by both clubs that recently visited after finding a poor quality playing surface amid claims there were shards of glass and nails on the grass.
However, despite the former Sheffield United winger agreeing that the pitch isn't up to League Two standards, Liddell told
skysports.com that the state of the surface is out of the club's hands.
"It's not in an ideal state to play good football on, which is what both Rotherham and Huddersfield like to do, but I think it was worse for the latter rather than the Rochdale game.
"I don't think there was too much wrong with it for the Rochdale match, apart from the grass being a bit dead.
"I never saw any nails or broken glass on the pitch against Rochdale and I was there as much as anyone else, but it was in a bad state for the Huddersfield game.
"The fact that the rugby team play on it can't help, but it is out of the club's hands really because they don't own the pitch.
"You don't expect that standard for League Two football as the grass was moving around a bit, with holes here and there, but the main problem is for the fans because they pay good money to come and be entertained.
"It's pretty hard to do that when the pitch isn't good enough to play good football, but I'm sure it will get sorted out."
