Veteran midfielder agrees one-year deal

Gus McPherson has bolstered his St Mirren squad with the addition of veteran midfielder Allan Johnston. The 35-year-old, who played for Kilmarnock for the past five seasons, has signed a one-year deal with The Buddies. The former Middlesbrough and Rangers man has been training with St Mirren since pre-season, despite McPherson fearing the veteran could be out of their price range. However, following lengthy negotiations Johnston is now contracted to the St Mirren Park outfit for the remainder of the SPL season. Johnston, who has been capped 18 times for Scotland, started his career with Hearts before joining French side Rennes in 1996. The Buddies have won only one of their five SPL matches this season, although the team sit seventh in the table three points clear of Falkirk.
