Seasiders striker working towards fitness after knee injury

Blackpool striker Stephen McPhee is hoping to make his first-team comeback from a long-term knee injury in January. McPhee has been sidelined since suffering cruciate ligament damage in a reserve-team game in April, but is working his way back to full fitness. The 28-year-old, who was restricted to just five appearances for Blackpool last season, is optimistic he can force his way into Ian Holloway's plans in the New Year. "I'm getting there, slowly, slowly," McPhee told the club's official website. "I've just got to take each day at a time. "It's a bit like Groundhog Day to be honest - you have good days and bad days. But hopefully next month I can start running and then starting getting the ball out with the aim to be back around January, touch wood. "I've had a long injury once before and you've just got make sure that everything's right. It's better to just take it easy and make sure that everything's all right, because when you've been out for a long time you tend to get little hamstring niggles and little calf niggles. "I've talked to the gaffer a couple of times and he knows how I play, so hopefully when I do get back fit enough I'll have a fair chance to get back in."
