Penny eager to impress

Diego Penny is ready to fill the void for Burnley if Brian Jensen is forced to miss out against Hull City.

Peruvian hoping to start against Tigers

Diego Penny is ready to fill the void for Burnley against Hull City this weekend if Brian Jensen is forced to miss out with injury. The Clarets' number one was forced out of their home defeat to Wigan after suffering ankle ligament damage and is a doubt for the visit of The Tigers. Penny joined Burnley in the hope of regular first-team football, but it has proved a frustrating spell in England for the 25-year-old shot-stopper. The former Coronel Bolognesi keeper would rather his team-mate not be injured in order for him to win a chance, however, he will still be giving his all if he gets the nod.

Best

"I always want to see my team-mates fit to play, including Brian, but in this situation I had to replace him and I did my best," he told the club's official website. "All of my team-mates showed me their support and for me that moment was very important. I was very excited about it. It's hard to come on but I tried to do my best. "When I came over everyone knows I started to play but then things changed and after that we got promoted so I have had to be patient and keep working hard all time, the same as Brian. "I am waiting for my chance and if I have to play against Hull I will do my best and hopefully we will get the three points."
Very happy
Penny's Premier League debut did not go unnoticed in his homeland and along with striving to help Burnley secure their top-flight status he is keen to help boost Peru after their failure to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals. "Everybody in Peru was very happy that I played," he added. "They were disappointed with the result, as well as me, but it's football. "I have to come back to my national team as well. My last game was against Brazil and I need to show what I can do. I haven't played for a long time so this is good chance. "We finished on the bottom and we have to come back and I will do my best to help my national team. That's important as well."
