Reported St Johnstone target Craig Moore has instead joined Greek Super League side Kavala on an 18-month deal.

The SPL outfit were being linked with the veteran Australian after he was released from his contract with A-League side Brisbane Roar at the end of last month following a fall-out with coach Ange Postecoglou.

But the former Rangers and Newcastle defender has instead opted to move to the Greek Super League side as he bids to make the Socceroos' World Cup squad.

The 34-year-old will join former Australia goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac at Kavala, who are currently seventh in the Greek top flight following promotion last term.

The club also have two other Australians on their playing staff in youngster Robert Stambolziev, who is on loan from Panathinaikos, and Paul Giannou, who was born in Greece but grew up in Melbourne.

Moore started all four of Australia's matches at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany and won his 47th cap in Wednesday's Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait.
