Defender returns to Sweden

Erik Edman has left Wigan to rejoin former club Helsingborgs in his native Sweden. The 31-year-old, whose contract at Wigan was due to expire at the end of the season, has been allowed to leave the DW Stadium on a free transfer. Edman struggled with injuries during his time at Wigan with the full-back making just nine first-team appearances during his two years at the club. Edman began his career at Helsingborgs and he is delighted to return to the Swedish outfit after signing a five-year deal. "It feels fantastic to come home and hopefully I add my experience from the top level." Edman told the club's official website.
