Defender withdraws claim against former employer

Defender Bobo Balde has withdrawn a breach of contract claim against former club Celtic. The 34-year-old, who left Parkhead at the end of his contract last summer, had also lodged the claim over alleged non-payment of wages. But a judgment issued by the Employment Tribunal Office in Glasgow said the player had put an end to the matter. The document stated "the claim was withdrawn by the claimant", though no explanation was given as to why. Balde, who now plays for French team Valenciennes FC, signed for Celtic in 2001 and was thought to be earning around £30,000 a week. But he only made a handful of appearances in the latter part of his career after a well-documented fallout with the club.
