James arrives at Underhill on a free transfer after leaving Tampere United.
The 22-yeard has agreed a deal until the end of the season at Underhill as he looks to be playing regularly ahead of this summer's World Cup finals.
New Zealand are keen for the former Fulham youngster to be playing regularly before this summer's finals and James will be hoping to catch the eye at Barnet to secure a spot in his country's squad for the trip to South Africa.
Barnet are awaiting international clearance for the midfielder before finalising the deal for James.
