Defender out to put an end to former club's chances

Darren Moss has set his sights on killing off former club Shrewsbury's play-off hopes and steering Morecambe to promotion. The full-back left the Shrews after losing last year's League Two play-off final against Gillingham and signed a two-year deal with Morecambe. And Moss, 28, could be going back to Wembley this year with the Shrimps, who visit his former club on Saturday. Shrewsbury, who sacked manager Paul Simpson on Friday, need to win their last two games to have any chance of making the top seven while Morecambe are below seventh-placed Port Vale only on goal difference after last Saturday's 1-0 home win against Dagenham.

"We were the better team and we've got to take that forward into the Shrewsbury game," Moss told skysports.com. "I had some good years there but we didn't quite manage to get promoted. It'll be good to go back and it'll be a big game for both teams. "This is only Morecambe's third year in the league but they've been there or thereabouts every year so hopefully this season we can get there, especially with us moving into the new stadium next season. "A lot of people ruled us out after we lost at Northampton last month but we've kept things quiet and gone on a fantastic run. "We lost two difficult games at Bradford and Notts County so it was great to bounce back against Dagenham. "It was a massive win for us because they're challenging for the play-offs too. I think we've got to win both the last two games to get in there but we're capable of doing that." Saturday's win came courtesy of a superb 86th-minute strike by Moss, which was not only his first goal for Morecambe but his first for two years. "As soon as I struck it, I knew I'd caught it well," he said. "One of their lads was on the line and it just went over him. It was a great feeling because it came at the right time too. "It's been a difficult season because I've been in and out of the team, I just kept plugging away and now I've got my rewards."
