Dutch club decide not to extend winger's contract

PSV Eindhoven winger Andy van der Meyde is to leave the club after it was decided not to extend his contract.

The former Everton player only moved to Philips Stadion in January after six months without a club, but his short-term deal is due to expire this summer.

PSV are unable to guarantee Van der Meyde, 30, a place in their first team, especially after the signing of Jeremain Lens from AZ Alkmaar, and as a result will let him leave.

General manager Jan Reker told the club's official website: "PSV believe it is important for Andy to play weekly matches. PSV cannot offer him that."

Van der Meyde began his career at Ajax in 1997 before a loan at FC Twente was followed by a move to Inter Milan in 2003.

The 18-time Holland international then joined Everton in 2005, but made only 20 appearances in four years at Goodison Park as injuries disrupted his career.
