Simon Royce has turned down an offer to stay at Gillingham in order to join Brentford as goalkeeper coach.
The 38-year-old, who made over 100 appearances for the Gills, will join the Bees as a full-time goalkeeping coach while also registering as a player.
Royce last played for Gillingham back in December after a car accident put an early end to his season, but the veteran shot-stopper is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career.
He told Brentford's
official website: "I'm absolutely delighted to be joining Brentford and in particular to work with (manager) Andy Scott who I consider to be one of the brightest young managers in the League.
"It's a great opportunity for me as I start to wind down my playing career and start a new chapter in my life. Particularly so at a club who obviously share my ambition for success."
