Portugal midfielder set for short spell on the sidelines
Portugal midfielder Ruben Amorim will be sidelined for at least six days after an injury to his left thigh.
The versatile 25-year-old, who himself was only drafted into Portugal's World Cup squad after Nani was ruled out through injury, picked up the problem in training before Monday's 7-0 win over North Korea.
"A scan has confirmed the injury," read a statement from the Portuguese Football Federation on Tuesday.
"A period of six days of complete rest is expected, with treatment and a gradual integration of training sessions from next week."
The Benfica man will therefore be unavailable for the final Group G match against Brazil in Durban on Friday and probably also Portugal's second round game, should they progress.
Amorim was used mainly at right-back as Benfica won last season's Portuguese title and was rewarded with his international debut as a late substitute in Portugal's 0-0 draw with the Ivory Coast in their World Cup opener.
The Portuguese federation added that midfielder Deco is still receiving treatment for the hip injury that ruled him out of the North Korea game and he is training separately from the rest of the squad.
