Hessenthaler set to bring in midfielder as player/coach

Former midfielder Nicky Southall is set to join Gillingham from Dover as player/coach. Andy Hessenthaler left the non-league side to become manager of Gillingham before his successor Ian Hendon left Dover after just 18 days to become his assistant. Academy coach Darren Hare also moved to Priestfield and new Dover boss Martin Hayes must now face up to losing the man he had hoped would be his number two. Southall, who is set to put pen-to-paper on a deal over the next few days, told the Kent Messenger: "I'm delighted. I hadn't agreed a deal at Dover and hadn't spoken to the manager there. "I had the opportunity to come back to the club which I hold close to my heart and I've got so many fond memories there. "I've been at a lot of clubs and worked with some fantastic managers and I think I've got a lot to offer."
