Uruguayan keen to make Ajax return

Ajax midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has bemoaned the injury problems which have kept him out of action so far this season. The Uruguay international sustained a foot injury during the World Cup quarter-finals against Ghana in the summer and is yet to play for Ajax this term. Lodeiro, who joined Martin Jol's side in January, has admitted his frustration at the fitness problems which have blocked his progress with the Dutch giants. "My injury made me very sad," Lodeiro told Ajax TV. "I thought: a new season, new opportunities. I so wanted to win my place." Lodeiro, who has recently returned to training, chose to undergo his rehabilitation in Holland rather than returning that South America. "That way I know my colleagues better," he said. "Furthermore, the contact with the doctor was better."

Risk

While eager to return to the pitch, Lodeiro is aware he cannot afford to rush his comeback and risk further injury. "I play sooner rather than later," he said. "But of course I should not take too many risks. "The choice is up to the trainer. And then we'll see if I can play again." The 21-year-old is eager to prove his worth at Ajax when he returns to full fitness, adding: "Certainly I will show fans of Ajax how much I like football."
