Former Bolton Wanderers and Hull City defender Bernard Mendy admits he is hoping to win a move back to England.
Portsmouth have been linked with a move for the Frenchman who is available on a free transfer.
The former French international is training with French Ligue 1 side Caen in readiness for a new club after his contract with Hull City was cancelled when the East Yorkshire club were relegated from the Premier League in May.
The 29-year-old feels that he can still play at the highest level in England but would consider a club in the Championship.
"I have been working hard here in Caen, I'm fit and ready to play, I would like to go back to England, but I'm also interested and happy to try other countries, but I won't take the first offer that comes. My next club will come at an important time of my career," Mendy told
skysports.com.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player continued: "The important thing for me is to find a club and a country that fits well for my family as much as myself and if that happens now or in a month I am happy to wait."
Mendy joined Hull City after they secured promotion in the summer of 2008.
He made nearly 50 appearances playing mainly at right-back, but his pace was utilised to play as an occasional winger as Phil Brown, and then Iain Dowie, tried to keep the Tigers in the Premier League last season.
