Zomer on target to deny ADO a win
AZ Alkmaar moved up one place to fifth after inflicting a second consecutive defeat on Ajax, while Vitesse moved out of the relegation zone after thumping VVV 5-1.
The win for Alkmaar leaves them just three points off the Champions League place, as two goals in three minutes undid the four-time European Champions.
Pontus Wernbloom got the scoring on the way after 74 minutes and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson sealed the points at the AZ Stadion three minutes later.
Vitesse, though, had the most eye-catching result of the day as they hammered five past the porous VVV defence which moved them up a place to 15th.
Brace
Marcus Pedersen notched a brace but it was Wiljan Pluim that opened the scoring for the visitors after just 11 minutes, with Julian Jenner adding the second after 31 minutes.
Ruud Boymans, however, continued his impressive form this term as he reduced arrears after 77 minutes to give VVV a brief glimmer of a comeback.
But Pedersen stepped forward with two goals in as many minutes to end the contest before Ismail Aissati added a fourth just a minute before time.
Groningen suffered a surprise defeat away to Heracles Almelo but because of other results remain fourth in the Eredivisie.
Scoring
Samuel Armenteros opened the scoring, Everton Ramos Da Silva doubled their advantage before Mark Loons sealed their fate with a third after 84 minutes.
Ramon Zomer, meanwhile, denied ADO Den Haag a crucial victory with a goal in the final minute to snatch a point for NEC.
Nathaniel Will had been unfortunate to scored an own goal but his blushes were spared by his team-mate right at the death of the match.
Elsewhere, Feyenoord played out a 2-2 Heerenveen, which allowed Heerenveen to move up one place to eighth and keep Feyenoord in 14th spot.
Jerson Cabral salvaged a point for the home side when he netted an equaliser nine minutes from full-time, which must have seen like an eternity after Luc Castaignos put them ahead after 11 minutes.
Mika Vayrynen equalised and Viktor Elm put them ahead put they were unable to hold on for the three points.
