Striker on brink of comeback for St Mirren

St Mirren have been handed a lift with the long-awaited return of striker Craig Dargo to full training. Dargo has been sidelined for four months with a persistent knee injury, limiting him to just two Scottish Premier League appearances so far this season. But while Saturday's clash away to Rangers will come too early for the 32-year-old, manager Danny Lennon expects to see him back in action sooner rather than later. "The physio wants to work with Craig for another week and I can understand that," said Lennon. "We don't want to count our chickens with Craig, so let's see how he can get through things this week and we'll maybe step it up and try to get him a game next week."

Impact

Dargo is out of contract with Saints at the end of the season and Lennon knows he will be looking to make an impact for the remainder of the campaign. "Seeing Craig back is a boost because, given half a chance, he's deadly in front of goal," he said. "I can understand his frustration. He knows his contract is up at the end of the summer and he'll be trying to impress. "You are only as good as your last game but, as I recall, he scored in that one."
