Stuttgart midfielder Johan Audel is set to be sidelined for several months after sustaining knee ligament damage.
Audel picked up the problem during a collision with team-mate Sven Ulreich in training earlier this week.
He is now set to undergo surgery but could miss the remainder of the Bundesliga season and goalkeeper Ulreich admits it is a major blow for Stuttgart.
"I am very sorry for Johan," Ulreich told the club's official website. "This is bad news.
"We all hope that the operation goes well. The most important thing is that he recovers quickly."
Audel only joined Stuttgart from Valenciennes on a four-year contract in August and had struggled to establish himself in the starting line-up prior to his injury.
