Steve Bruce expects defender Paulo Da Silva to leave Sunderland in the January transfer window.

Black Cats boss hopeful of selling South American centre-back

Steve Bruce still expects Paulo Da Silva to leave Sunderland, despite the defender's move to Cruz Azul falling through. The Paraguay international has failed to establish himself in the Black Cats defence since arriving last season and has made just one appearance in the Premier League this term. With the summer addition of Titus Bramble adding competition on Wearside, Da Silva has fallen further down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light and has been deemed surplus to requirements. The 30-year-old elected against a switch to Cruz Azul, although Bruce is aware of interest by Spanish side Real Zaragoza and hopes something can be done during the January transfer window. The Sunderland boss told The Journal: "Paulo turned down the move to Cruz Azul and I think the Mexican window is shut. "There is interest in Spain and that might develop. Real Zaragoza want him, so something might happen there."
