Coventry midfielder facing three weeks out

Coventry skipper Lee Carsley is facing a stint on the sidelines as he requires two spells under the surgeon's knife. The veteran midfielder is due to fly to Munich for a hernia operation at the clinic where Carl Baker was recently treated prior to his speedy return to action. And the 36-year-old will then be on his way to Sweden for a separate procedure on an Achilles problem which has been troubling him for some time. Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd expects to be without the services of his captain for the next three weeks. It means Carsley is likely to miss the FA Cup fourth-round tie at former employers Birmingham and the crucial Championship encounters against fellow promotion contenders QPR, Nottingham Forest and Leeds. The timing of Carsley's absence coincides with the return of Sky Blues midfielder Sammy Clingan from a lengthy knee injury, while Aron Gunnarsson and Michael Doyle retained their places in the middle of the park and again performed admirably against Sheffield United on Saturday. Carsley has started 25 of Coventry's 27 league games this season, with Saturday's injury-related omission against the Blades coming after he was only forced to miss the December defeat to Norwich through suspension.
