Title chasers boost squad with Genoa forward

Lazio have boosted their Serie A title hopes by completing the signing of forward Giuseppe Sculli from Genoa. Sculli announced on Monday night that a deal had been agreed between the two clubs and he arrived in Rome on Tuesday to undergo a medical. It is thought Lazio have agreed to pay Genoa a fee of 3.5million euros (£3m) for the 29-year-old forward, who is set for a baptism of fire for the Biancocelesti. Lazio face bitter rivals Roma in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday and coach Edy Reja has confirmed Sculli could make his debut at the Stadio Olimpico.

Bench role

"Sculli has been signed by Lazio and hence is already available for Wednesday's derby against Roma," said Reja. "I'll talk to him after today's training session and if he's convinced he's ready, he'll be on the bench." A former Italy youth international, Sculli had made just eight league appearances for Genoa this season without scoring but claimed 18 goals from 82 starts over the last three seasons. Genoa are mid-table halfway through the Serie A season while Lazio are third, just four points behind league leaders AC Milan.
