Palermo have sealed the signing of Pablo Andres Gonzalez but allowed him to remain at Novara until the summer.
The 25-year-old Argentine has caught the eye with Serie B side Novara over the past couple of seasons and Premier League duo Aston Villa and Sunderland were thought to be monitoring his progress earlier in the season.
However, it is Palermo who have won the chase for Gonzalez's signature, snapping him up on a permanent deal prior to Monday's transfer deadline.
The Sicilian club view him more as a long-term prospect and feel they have enough attacking options currently at their disposal, so Gonzalez will see out the rest of the campaign on loan back at Novara.
Novara are flying high in the Italian second tier and will hope to join Palermo in Serie A next term.
